Come and See

May 12, 2025

38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.

“Come and see,” said Philip.

-John 1:38-39, 45-46 NIV

Come and see. Come and see. In John 1, these words are repeated twice in a matter of a few verses.

In John 1, Jesus’ invitation to a potential disciple was simply, “Come and see.”

Jesus must have said this often because an early disciple of His used this same phrase when inviting a friend to meet their Rabbi.

Come and see.

Lord, what are you up to?

Come and see.

Lord, where are you leading?

Come and see.

Lord, how is it all going to turn out?

Come and see.

Lord, are You really who You say you are?

Come and see.

In this life, if we want to know God the Father and live the lives we were created for, we must be willing to follow Jesus where He leads us. The invitation is to come and see, implying we must journey with Jesus to see God.

Faith demands movement. We can’t expect to see God’s Kingdom come without moving towards Jesus.

Jesus is inviting you each and every day to come and see…

The question is: how will you respond today?

Here’s a simple prayer you can pray that I jotted in my Seek First Journal in response to my time of reflection in John 1:29-51:

Lord,

I love You! Thank You for this day. Thank You for Your Word and the invitation to “come and see!” May I walk with You today. May I wholeheartedly follow You. May my worship produce movement. Give me an obedient heart and let my actions honor You. May I see Your Kingdom come and know You more. Keep me close to You. My hope is in You. You are the Lord Almighty, and You are forever worthy of all the praise.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
